IONA 2006 was pronounced the best yet- a hard act to follow. Wonderful sunshine, lyrical colours, much fun, laughter and serious inspiration (as well as great food!) as we welcomed participants from the USA as well as Britain in a magical mystical tour of writing. Happy times…. and thank you to all those participants who said such kind things about the experience of Iona 2006.
'I've been left with such good memories of my time on Iona. Thank you for making me feel at ease, being so encouraging and for your wonderful teaching skills. It is a great gift that you have…'
'Thank you so much for a wonderful Iona experience- the best yet!'
'I don't know what is, but when I see you, my world changes. Your encouragement, your visualizations, and your methods unlock that something deep inside that feels natural and powerful (in contrast to what I do every day). You give me the strength to follow my dreams. It only takes that one walk with you on a beach or on a path, the sharing with you. They do say, when you are ready, the "teacher" will come. And you are definitely that "teacher"!!'
'For me Iona was perfect. It was the size of the island that I liked best of all. Because everything was accessible you could get north south east and west in a day! So dawn and sunset could be equally dramatic and 360 degree views from up on high only took 20 minutes to reach. The variety was huge, even within that tiny space. Photo opportunities galore. Wonderful beaches, shells, rocks, turquoise[!!!!] sea that you just have to swim in etc etc. A shop 1 minute away was helpful. Bike hire helpful.... I have come back feeling that I 'know' Iona and what it represents and as such I relate to it in a special [creative] way....I never got to the Abbey or the heritage centre so I need to go back!... I had a great time and loved the group.'
THE ARGYLL HOTEL IONA
The Argyll, overlooking the turquoise sea around Iona, is justifiably celebrated for its restaurant, which combines classic French cuisine and the finest Hebridean produce, with seasonal vegetables and salads from their own organic garden, all in the classic period dining room. Many writers have stayed at the Argyll including Robert Louis Stevenson.
There is a sun lounge which looks out over the Sound of Mull. Rooms are simple but well equipped and include en-suite facilities.
Under the new hotel policy the cost of the course includes
hotel accommodation, continental breakfast plus all tuition. Other meals by arrangement with the hotel. B&B non-resident places are also available.

Angela will be running a special course in the ancient Finisterre Forest in Brittany in September 2012, from 20th to the 27th, for a small number of writers. The course will begin in the ancient port of Roscoff, and consider Travel Writing, and will then move to Huelgoat, beside a magical lake and at the centre of the Finisterre Forest, based during the day at a house and art studio with its own 6 m high standing Stone. We will explore the ancient history and culture of the Celts and the Breton language, the Arthurian legends which are woven around this area, and the music and traditions of the Breton people through our writing. Beginners and experienced writers are welcome. Contact Angela on angelic@globalnet.co.uk for more information.
